Garage Door Maintenance issues
25/10/2017
With the summer over and the winter fast approaching, autumn is the time to take a few moments to check your garage door for any potential problems. Carrying out a few small checks now can help prevent any bigger problems occurring during the colder months. We suggest considering the following:
1. Damaged or missing weather stripping
The weather stripping at the bottom of your garage door is designed to keep warm air within your garage and cold air out. If this seal is broken or missing in places the barrier will not be there and the energy efficiency of your garage compromised. Take time to check it is all in place and replace damaged areas if necessary.
2. Misaligned parts
Cold temperatures can cause metal to contract this issue to occur. If parts such as the rollers and tracks become misaligned it will be more difficult to smoothly open and close the garage door and there may be also be more noise and usual too. If this happens it’s important to realign them as quickly as possible. If you are unsure how to do this contact a professional repair service for help.
3. Sufficient lubrication
Well lubricated parts in a garage door allow it to open and close in a smooth and efficient way. Unfortunately, during the winter some lubrication can become stiffer due to the cold. To mitigate against this use a spray lubricant on components such as the springs, bearings, and hinges to ensure they can freely move.
