How are timber doors made?

The traditional and homely appearance of natural wood is difficult to ignore so using it for your garage door is an ideal option. It can add traditional as well as class to your home, whilst also providing high levels of security.

Timber is a very versatile material, and is used in a wide range of Bradford Garage Doors garage doors. So that we have an option that suits any of your needs and practical issues, we can provide timber doors that are in the following arrangements: up and over, sectional and side hinged.

There are many construction methods using in the making of timber garage doors and each one is different dependant on the style of garage door you choose. Below our team of installers based in Bradford have listed some of the major differences:

Up and over garage doors

Timber up and over garage doors can be made in a variety of ways. A common method, or the most preferred, is to use a box section steel chassis for the door chassis, and then add the timber into the structure to create a timber panel. This panel is incredibly strong as it has the stability from the steel framework. You can also use softer timber in this structure without compromising the overall strength of the door.

Sectional garage doors

Timber sectional garage doors are constructed from individual panels using the more traditional mortise and tenon joinery methods. When this process takes places, it should be noted that only a professional garage door specialist should install and make this door. This is because the timber needs to be treated correctly and the overall door has many more moving parts which all need to be aligned properly for it to work. If not fully aligned the door will not work properly and it could be expensive to solve the problem.

Side hinged garage doors

A side hinged door made from timber also uses the mortise and tenon joinery techniques, but it also uses a technique called stapling. The most commonly used wood for this type of door in the UK is Cedarwood because of the British climate. This would is much better at standing up to the elements than cheaper wood and thus gives much better life span and value for money.
