Is your garage door ready for Winter?

With winter fast approaching now is the time to take a few moments to inspect your garage door. Looking out for and dealing with any tell-tale signs of damage now could save you a lot of time and money in the long run as well as help prevent damage to any belongings stored within it. We recommend you check the following:

Oil key parts

Cooler temperatures mean that vital parts of the garage door can seize up during this period. It’s a good idea to check that the opening mechanisms such as the springs and hinges are all well lubricated to help avoid any problems.

Inspect the weather stripping

Weather stripping provides a seal around the garage door helping to keep the cold air out and the warm air in. If any of this is missing or damaged than the efficiency of the door is compromised. Replace stripping where necessary in order to have full protection. If it snows, it also advisable to remove this straight away to avoid stripping freezing and making it more difficult to open the door.

Garages can be considerably cooler in the winter. This is a problem if you use your garage as a work space or extra living space. Investing in a highly insulated door is a great solution – the garage will be much warmer all year round and your heating bills will be less. A professional garage door company will be able to advise on which one would be most suitable for your garage and the savings you are likely to make.
